Things have certainly changed from when she was a young girl, mentions of straw boaters and boys up to Year 2 are a distant memory. Having completed a Physical Education QTS degree, and taught at a handful of state and independent schools Bryony is armed with aims to showcase the strength of the department and talent of the pupils.
What was your experience of life at Abbot’s Hill?
I have only happy memories of coming to School here, the teachers were so encouraging of my enthusiasm for sport, pushing me to be the best I could. As well as on the field I felt the coaching through the academic side of School was second to none, as a dyslexic I found some areas tricker than others, but never daunting thanks to the support from Abbot’s.
"You can be whoever you want to be at Abbot’s Hill”
Best thing about working at Abbot’s Hill?
The food… I’m looking forward to having the legendary banoffee pie again!
It’s also been great catching up with teachers who taught me; it’s a slight adjustment being on a first name basis, I’m still getting used to that. Everyone has been so welcoming and I'm loving being back.
What is your vision for the future of the department?
There is a huge amount of unlocked talent at Abbot’s Hill, so many of the pupils could be part of pathway and development programmes or at the very least playing for county or local teams. I want to build their confidence and match experience so they can excel and take hold of opportunities that may come their way.
More generally as a department we’d like to widen the girls’ appreciation of sport and fitness, everyone should be able to find an area of sport that they enjoy whether that is table tennis, lacrosse or zumba. We would love for all the pupils to have a chance to try their hand at as many sports as possible and with the fantastic facilities we have it shouldn’t be difficult to do so. I also want to showcase the strength of the department, every single teacher is a huge asset and between us we can offer the pupils a huge variety of development and training.
